Christmas Is About Generosity!

It's that time of year again! Once again, this Christmas season we are encouraging our church community to make time to serve others in and throughout Langley. Below are the service opportunities we invite you to take advantage of.

 

Decorating at Fort Langley Seniors Community (Park Place)

Saturday, November 30th, 11:00am-1:00pm

Can you spare a couple hours to assist in decorating the back garden at the Fort Langley Seniors Community? Help us bring Christmas cheer and brighten the mood by setting up decorations, lights and displays. We are in need of 8-10 men to help with the set up and work alongside some of the residents. Note: This is an outdoor activity and will require proper clothing depending on the weather. Please SIGN UP by November 24th. 

Also, we are in need of donations of decorations and supplies for the display. If you are able to donate any items or would like a detailed list of specific needs, please contact Jim Shopland.

Carol Service at Park Place Senior's Home

Sunday, December 1st, 2:00-3:00pm

This is a long-standing tradition for LWC. Come and bless these precious seniors with songs of the season! Families welcome. Please SIGN UP by November 24th.

"The Gift": A Live Christmas Story & Community Event

Friday, December 6th, 5:00 pm

LWC's "Kids at the Fort" will be offering an interactive, multigenerational, fun, FREE family night for the community of Fort Langley. There will be live music, a food truck, a marketplace, crafts, a live nativity and more! We would love to have you join us.

Breakfast with Santa: Inclusion Langley Child Dev. Centre

Saturday, December 7th, 8:15am-2:30pm

Come and help these special children and their families celebrate Christmas. Our role is to greet, serve meals to families, as well as table set up and clean up.

The greeting & serving portion of this event is now FULL, please consider helping with sorting and wrapping gifts in preparation for this event (sign up below) or check out the other opportunities and events still in need of helping hands.  

In addition, hands are needed Dec 4/5/6 to help with sorting and wrapping gifts that will be distributed to children during the event. Shifts are from 10:00am-1:00pm or 1:00-4:00pm each day. Please SIGN UP by December 1st.

Dinner & Dance: Langley Special Olympics

Saturday, December 7th, 5:30-10:30pm

Come and help serve a Christmas meal to our local Special Olympians, their families, and those who volunteer for them year round! Serve throughout the evening and then help clean up at the end. You might even score a dance with one of our Olympians!

The evening serving portion of this event is now FULL, please consider helping with the afternoon setup for this event (sign up below) or check out the other opportunities and events still in need of helping hands.  

Assistance is also needed in the afternoon at 2:30 pm for set up before the event. Please SIGN UP by December 1st.

Magic of Christmas Festival: Carol Singing

Saturday, December 7th, 6:30-7:45pm

We have been invited to sing Christmas carols at Langley City’s “Magic of Christmas” Festival. We will be singing carols for 20 minutes before the Christmas tree lighting and then again for 20 minutes afterwards. We will also be serving hot chocolate. A great opportunity for families, Life Groups and friends to serve together. Please SIGN UP by December 1st.

Salvation Army Christmas Kettles

Saturday, December 14, various times & locations

Ring the bells and encourage people to fill the kettle in support of the Salvation Army. It’s more fun with a group of people, so gather your family, friends or Life Group and come out to serve. Guitars and Christmas songs are welcome! Please SIGN UP by December 8th.

LWC Christmas Hampers 

Mid-December

Every year LWC provides Christmas Hampers to those in our community who are in need. Along with our Life Groups, we would like to provide an opportunity for others to be involved. Whether you can provide an entire hamper or be connected with others to prepare one, please be sure to get involved. A great opportunity for families too! Please SIGN UP by November 24th.

Christmas Gifts for Women's Prison

Wednesday, December 11th, 7:00pm

Come and help write meaningful Christmas cards and pack Christmas gift bags to be given to women who are incarcerated in a local federal institution.

Best Babies Christmas Social: Encompass Support Services Society

Thursday, December 12th, 10:00am-3:00pm

Be a part of this luncheon event for young children and parents who are part of the "Best Babies" and the "Pregnant & Parenting Youth" programs at Encompass. Lend a hand with set up/take down, kitchen/serving needs, and help in the kids craft/play area. Santa comes for pictures and to hand out books to the children. You will be required to complete a brief volunteer application form.
